چکیده
Abstract Purpose Molecular imaging with 99m Tc-methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile ( Tc-MIBI, MIBI) has been used in the assessment of thyroid nodules (TNs) for more than two decades. Many studies showed that MIBI is a suitable tool to rule-out malignancy when negative. However, relatively low specificity and accuracy have described, thus, limiting its acceptance clinical practice. Additionally, different technologies, protocols, interpretation criteria are adopted accounting heterogeneous data reported literature. Therefore, present study was undertaken assess use methodology patients nodular disease Europe. Methods A questionnaire sent 12 European centers Nuclear Medicine. The encompassed ultrasound (US) fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) procedures their evaluation as well scintigraphy indications, technical procedures, imaging. Results survey good agreement approaching TNs by TSH measurement, US Tc-pertechnetate scintigraphy. mainly inconclusive/indeterminate cytological findings selection target nodule(s) FNAC multi-nodular goiter. Technical globally comparable recorded differences unlikely impact results. main result study, substantial were found centers. Conclusions Our supports urgent need standardized order improve diagnostic performance make results

99mTc-MIBI imaging in thyroid nodules: is it useful?
Treglia et al. [1] have recently proposed a meta-analysis evaluating the diagnostic performance of 99mTc-MIBI scan in predicting the malignancy of thyroid nodules. 99m-Tc is registered and adopted worldwide for myocardial perfusion imaging and for the diagnostic work-up of hyperparathyroidism. Furthermore there are reports on the use of 99mTc-MIBI imaging in post-surgical evaluation of thyroid ...
متن کاملDiagnostic Performances of 99mTc-Methoxy Isobutyl Isonitrile Scan in Predicting the Malignancy of Lung Lesions
We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the value of technetium-99m methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (Tc-MIBI) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in differentiating malignant from benign lung lesions. The PubMed and Embase databases were comprehensively searched for relevant articles that evaluated lung lesions suspicious for malignancy. Two reviewers independently extracted the data...
متن کامل[Usefulness of 99mTc-methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile scintigraphy for preoperative localization of adenoma in primary hyperparathyroidism].
We evaluated the usefulness of 99mTc-methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile (MIBI) dual phase scintigraphy for detecting hyperfunctioning parathyroid adenoma. We retrospectively reviewed 18 hyperparathyroid patients who received MIBI prior to neck exploration and compared the radiological findings of MIBI with ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Fifteen patients were studied with MR...
متن کاملSolitary pulmonary nodule evaluation with 99mTc-methoxy isobutyl isonitrile in a tuberculosis-endemic area.
High prevalence of tuberculosis increases the odds for nonmalignant solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs). Positron emission tomography (PET) using (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose is the method of choice for the identification of malignant SPNs requiring curative surgery. However, PET is not widely available. Technetium-99m methoxy isobutyl isonitrile (MIBI) is inexpensive, widely available and shows incr...
